Edinburg Days 2 & 3

March 17th, 2010

Monday was incredible! We heard a life impacting message on the Father Heart of God in the morning, did a work project for the Lifehouse (our hosts) that including everything from mixing concrete and pouring columns to cutting down trees, weeding gardens, and pulling nails to reclaim some wood to be reused in future projects. Then we were off to our ministry site. We spent a good deal of time going into the neighborhoods surrounding the park and asking people if they knew Jesus, had someone sick in their family, or if they had ever encountered God. Then we invited them to the park to see the dance and drama. The park was full of families and young people. Many responded to the message and 8 more people came to know Jesus in a personal way! Yahoo!!!! One guys was DRAMATICALLY healed of a shoulder injury that disabled him from shooting hoops – He was ASTOUNDED that God healed him. Todd was a little blown away as well that God used him to bring healing to someone as well!!

Tuesday began with another great teaching on the Holy Spirit. As we prayed over one another to encounter more of the Holy Spirit, one guy had an open vision of God using a team member to pray for someone and they get healed, and another guy was totally healed of a severe knee injury! Many of our team were deeply touched and then used that to pray for others on the team and on our next outreach.

Tuesday evening at the park was an answer to prayer – it was cold and very rainy all day- but about 4pm the skies began to clear, and by 5:30pm it was blue skies! When we first arrived there were only a handful of people there – but as we prayer walked more and more arrived. One lady and her family who accepted Christ tonight said she was compelled to come to the park – and didn’t know why! God drew her! Her son saw a picture of Jesus smiling with love toward him as he prayed and waited on God with one of our team. His mother also committed her life to Jesus. One guy had a word of knowledge for a girl that totally cut through her haughty behavior and she began to cry- her and her boyfriend accepted Christ! All in all – 9 more salvations today!! And the guy who was dramatically healed of the shoulder injury last night – was back at the park tonight shooting hoops with a huge smile on his face! GO GOD!!!!

Pray for us – tommorrow is our last day! We want ALL God has for us here! We’re leaving it all on the field!

Edinburg Day One

March 15th, 2010

Our first day in Edinburg was AMAZING! We went to a huge flea market in Mission, TX this morning and WOW you could totally forget you were in Texas! From chickens to furniture to roasted corn on the cob – this place had it all! A band was playing underneath a pavilion and agreed to let us be there “halftime show!” We had a huge audience and performed our dance and drama followed by a presentation of the gospel. Several people responded to the message and asked for prayer. It was so fun to see everyone really going for it praying with people all over the place! Lunchtime was the most delicious fajita tacos at the little “restaurant”. Absolutely authentic!

This evening we went to Dolittle Park a massive municipal park and one of our favorite spots from last year. It was absolutely packed! It’s Spring Break here too – and lots of families and extended families were in the park for the day – grilling, celebrating birthdays, hanging out together. There were more people than we have ever seen here before – the parking lots and playgrounds were FULL! WE set up right beside the main playground and went out inviting people to come to the dance and drama. When we started doing balloon animals and face painting with the kids – 50 kids immediately mobbed our guys! We had to eventually stop and brought them all over to sing SUPERHERO together and watch the dance and drama set. Again – a great response to the message and many people were prayed with.

All in all – 17 people came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior today!

Please pray for us – this is the first mission trip for many of our guys and we are all really learning more and more how to share with people and be bold!

Jesus is Worthy!

EDINBURG 2010

March 12th, 2010

We leave for Edinburg in 36 hours! YIPPEE!!! We’re so excited to go again this year to the McAllen suburb of Edinburg! It’ll be Spring Break for UT-PanAm but that also means that tons of people will be out and about – in parks and such! We’re looking forward to our time there!

We’re in mad dash to get everything ready, and packed! Our team of 30 adults and 7 kids still needs about $5000 to come in before we leave – if you would like to donate you can do so securely through our church website at

https://antiochbelton.ccbchurch.com/app/trx_submit_bp.php?type=public_gift

If you do so -and you want it specified for a team member in particular- would you email one of our team leaders at sherry@antiochbelton.org and let her know whose account to credit? Thanks so much!

We have ALWAYS seen the money come in for our trips. In all our years of taking them – we have never not had enough! God is so GOOD! It’s very often at the last minute – but it’s so fun to see how creative He gets in meeting our every need!

Please pray for us!
We want to LOVE EXTRAVAGENTLY!!!!

Our theme verse for this trip is Ephesians 3:20 He IS more than we can Imagine!!

Score!

July 30th, 2009

WOW ! What a great trip! We saw hundreds of people prayed for in the name of Jesus, over 25 of them committing their life to Him! We all grew in our love for the peoples of the world, tried new foods, saw so many things we would NEVER see in the US and loved one another well through the whole process! Way to go TEAM!!!

Broad sowing of the Gospel

July 13th, 2009

The days are just disappearing! I don’t know how it’s happening! We have spent 5 full days here already! They are passing so fast!

We’ve seen around 20 people pray to receive Jesus so far and at least 100 presentations of the Gospel! Everyone is really going for it sharing with people. Initiating conversations and following up with those who’ve made decisions. It’s so fun to see everyone really diving in.

Sunday was very full here. We had our team time and worshiped and prayed and then all headed to a large park. Some of us were there on Saturday and it was packed. However – that was nothing compared to the crowds on Sunday. Masses. 240 acre botanical park visited by several thousand people. Imagine you’re at Six Flags on the busiest day of the year – times 4. And YOU are the main attraction! The team gathered on the grass and sang one worship song together. Then turned around to the people who were surrounding them (at least 4 people deep) to share the Gospel. The kiddos were celebrities with EVERYONE wanting to take a picture of them and with them. Their little cheeks were almost pinched off! Sherry started doing face painting on hands and was literally mobbed by little people and their parents wanting her to paint a Jesus Loves Me heart on their hand.

Monday was a much deserved day off – we’ve been running a really fast pace and needed some down time to regroup and be rejuvenated.

Pray for us as we finish out – we’re believing for many more salvations and healings these next 3 days!

Day One on the ground

July 9th, 2009

Today was a good day. Our hotel staff made us eggs and toast and then we had a team worship and prayer time. So good to worship together here! Then we embarqed on our first adventure. We rented a van to cart around the little ones and the Hammer family since Shelley’s crutches make it difficult to walk long distances. Unfortunately – the driver did not speak English. The rest of the group took off to meet the Johnson’s (Keving and Stacy and 4 kiddos) and drive to lunch in their van – then a few who couldn’t fit in (we fit 17 in a 4runner type vehicle!) rented rickshaws. The kids attract ALOT of attention as we walk the streets. Especially Oakes Smith and his curly reddish hair, Halle Hammer and her smiley face, and Lucy (just over 1 yr old cutie pie) and Maggie Wahlquist (super-cute 2 month old baby)! So the van and it’s occupents got lost – but finally made it to our lunch spot. Then we were off to the park when the rain started! It’s monsoon season here! They said it normally doesn’t rain as much as it did today though! The park was great – the kids rode the train – but not many people out because of the weather. So we decided to go to a large mall in hopes of finding more people to talk to. Right choice – the mall was PACKED! However the Smith and Hammer kids were having a major melt-down by that time so we ate a quick dinner and headed back to the hotel. The rest of the group was staying for awhile more sharing with people and then heading back. They’re still out – so I’ll let you know tommorrow how it went! Keep praying for us – IT’s WORKING!

We Made it!

July 8th, 2009

We’re here! And all our luggage is here as well! Thanks so much for praying for us! We arrived at 5:30 am India time this morning and got to see the city awaking as we drove to our hotel! Joey met us and got us all in our taxis for the trip to the hotel! A harrowing experience as all the taxi drivers were fighting over us! Took a little nap ( actually can’t wake the kids up! they keep falling back to sleep! ) and now we’re having a short team meeting and lunch (Pizza !). An orientation with a member of the long-term team here is on the schedule for the afternoon – then trying to stay awake till at least 8pm to get us on a good sleeping schedule! Pray for that please! Our hotels are actually apartments and very spacious and clean! If a bit noisy! More later……………..

Unexpected layover in London

July 6th, 2009

So – because of mechanical issues with our plane leaving Chicago – we were delayed boarding 3 hours. That translated into us getting into London too late to make our flight to Bangalore. So we are at a nice little hotel by the airport about to hav dinner – all courtesy of British Airlines! Pray we will rest well and that there will be no problems with our next flight!

Everyone traveled great – especially all these kiddos! Thanks for lifting them up! They think it’s a GRAND ADVENTURE! Because of Shelley’s crutches – they requested a wheelchair for her in Chicago and London. The porter assigned to us here in London – took ALL of us straight to the front of all the lines. He saved us hours of wwait time and showed us where to go at every turn! Thank you Jesus for your angels in disguise!

Leaving Tommorrow!

July 4th, 2009

Oh my goodness! We leave TOMORROW! Please pray for all the last minute details to go smoothly. Packing and tying up loose ends here. Pray our hearts will be prepared for all God will do in and through us!

We need a financial miracle! We are still needing a little over $10,000 ! Especially the families with children are needing some more money to come in! Would you pray for the Wahlquists, Hammers, Jones, and Smiths to get all their money in? God owns the cattle on a thousand hills – we need just a few sold at auction! Thanks for standing with us!

Praise report from Joey – who went ahead of us to “learn the ropes”. 21 people came to know Jesus in ONE DAY this week! YAAHOO! Joey is with the team from MCC in Waco that we will be teaming up with! Come on now – that’s something to SHOUT about!

Okay – off to pack……
